A life lesson from Bruce Lee

Everyone goes through life on their own path, some try to follow the ways of others of course, and that’s fine given you choose the correct way, but inevitably you have to live your own life and you must take responsibility for it.

There are a few people you see in life that are an inspiration for a huge number of others, be it through how they speak, act, or a single heroic instance.

One person of much inspiration is the great Bruce Lee, inspiring people of difference backgrounds since before he was first shown on the screen in films.

The main reason I have chosen Bruce Lee as my subject of this blog is quite obvious, it is after all a blog on martial arts, and from a Jeet Kune Do academy. However, there are numerous other reasons why I think you should consider Bruce Lee as at least an inspiring person in your life.

A major reason, for me at least, is that he taught us to ‘always try your best’. This is an important lesson, many seem to just gloss over nowadays, it being said often in passing to children who inevitably having heard it so often the words lose much of their meaning.

Watching Bruce Lee and hearing any of his many inspirational quotes can help to re-examine those words, always try your best. Its actually quite simply, the outcome isn’t what should determine your effort, given that you try your best your outcome will always improve. That’s important for everyone to understand, children may not understand that yet and adults may have forgotten the importance.

However, you do have to remember something, will you lead an inspirational life? If you’re a parent then this is surely important, if you aren’t a parent there are still others that will inevitably come to you for advice at some time in your life. Do you want that time to be a moment of inspiration or an awkward encounter of indecision and confusion?

Let me finish with some quotes by the man himself, and please comment on how they can be used in inspiring others, I always enjoy knowing how you have been inspired and motivated.

“If you spend too much time thinking about a thing, you’ll never get it done”

“I’m not in this world to live up to your expectations and you’re not in this world to live up to mine”

“Absorb what is useful, discard what is useless and add what is specifically your own”
