The MAC Logo
Our Philosophy and Goals
Our logo is representative of our philosophy in view of our martial art so let me explain as our primary concept in martial arts is based around Jeet Kune Do. Jeet Kune Do is not only a martial art but a philosophy of constantly improving, adapting and developing. Basically, the idea is to absorb that which is useful, reject that which is useless, and add what is specifically your own. This is obviously a very broad canvas, and it is only after many years of training and research that a martial artist can begin to develop his own Jeet Kune Do. Our logo has similarities to the original Jeet Kune Do logo that was designed around the Yin & Yang or Chinese symbol for the interaction of two halves to make a whole, for example hard & soft, light & dark, good and bad and so forth. In martial art this can signify the interaction between your mind and body, the interaction between you and an opponent or even the interaction between ranges of combat. In fact, anything where to separates can intermingle or change may contain a small elemental part of the opposite. Possibly encapsulated by Lee's quote "when you expand, I contract, and when you contract. I expand" However depending on your personal philosophy, your child may represent an element of your spiritual side by which I mean your personal spiritual side and not to be confused with any religious connotation.
Balance
The Yin and Yang has long been a part of Chinese culture and is now recognised worldwide as being a sign of balancing and as such, the core part of our logo which is symbolic of the Ying & Yang, represents our ability to balance all of the above.
The fire of our logo represents two sides of the same coin. The nurturing role of flame, giving us warmth and protection yet at the same time having the ability to roar and energise, to create massive energy. If we take the example of a loved one or child then we have the nurturing role of a parent to support, foster and guide or during times of great danger or risk then we have the destructive elemental force of "fire", as one of the great elements to cause great harm or unleash great power.
What does this mean to us in totality? Our logo represents balance, equal and opposite interaction of good & bad, hard & soft, expansion and contraction but all at the same time. The energy to nurture and give warmth or to rage and be destructive, should the circumstances require, in support of ourselves and the lives around us.
This is a very personal logo for me and it represents the culmination of my thoughts and actions based on many years of training in the martial arts. It means a great deal to me personally and I wear it with pride, I hope you join me on your own personal martial arts journey and you to wear Our Logo with pride and respect too.
